4 Matters Obligatory to Know
The author started mentioning the name of الله saying (the Basmalaah) بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم.
He said 'اعلم' (know)- it's an ettiquite of drawing attention so that the listener pays heed and be attentive concerning the knowledge that'll be presented to him. People can follow and utilize this ettiquite for addressing others to attract the attention of the one being addressed. Similar was done by Prophet ﷺ every now and then. This is to make the listener attentive to what will come next of the explanation.
Then the author says 'رحمك الله' (May الله have Mercy on you) which really means that May الله Forgive you your previous sins and Guide you to what is good and correct in future and protect you from sins in future. This is when رحمة or mercy is used alone but when مغفرة or forgiveness is added to it, it means forgiveness from previous sins whereas رحمة refers to granting of what is good and protection from sins in future. These words show the care and concern and the desire of good of the author for the reader.
Then he mentions the 4 matters which is obligatory to have knowledge of -
• Knowledge and awareness of الله, knowledge of His Prophet ﷺ and knowledge of Dīn Al-Islām with proofs.
• Acting upon it.
• Calling towards it.
• Patience upon any harm encountered in this path.
What is meant by obligatory here is individual obligation. Seeking knowledge is a binding matter on every Muslim. Acquiring knowledge and knowing the guidance with evidence, the legal islaamic knowledge and all that which a legally responsible person needs to know for his deen such as fundamentals of faith, laws of Islaam, what is needed and what should be avoided in transactions, etc. It's a must upon every person to seek and acquire such knowledge which he or she cannot be ignorant of in order to fulfill their duty and worship الله as He Has Commanded, he or she should beware of turning away from such knowledge and should accept the truth, advices and correct direction as this is the quality of a true believer.
