Tawḥeed and It's Branches

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

In the name of Allāh,the Extremely mercyiful,the Bestower of Mercy.

What is Tawḥeed?

Linguistically Tawḥeed means making something into one.It is an infinitive from the term وحد يوحد (uniting into one).

In the sharīʿah, it means to single Allaah in His Ruboobiyyah, His Divinity and His magnificent Names and Attributes.

The branches of Tawḥeed

Tawḥeed is divided into three categories:

•Tawḥeed Ar Ruboobiyyah (Allaah is the only true Deity)

•Tawḥeed Al Uloohiyyah (Allaah alone is the true Deity worthy of worship)

•Tawḥeed Al Asma Wa Ṣifaat (His magnificent Names and Attributes exclusively and uniquely being His-Qualified to the best Names and Attributes)

All of these 3 branches are combined in one ʾĀyah-

رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فَٱعْبُدْهُ وَٱصْطَبِرْ لِعِبَٰدَتِهِۦۚ هَلْ تَعْلَمُ لَهُۥ سَمِيًّا

Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, so worship Him (Alone) and be constant and patient in His worship. Do you know of any who is similar to Him? (of course none is similar or co-equal or comparable to Him, and He has none as partner with Him). [There is nothing like Him and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer].

“Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them“-This is exclusive Ruboobiyyah which belongs to Allaah alone.


“so worship Him (Alone) and be constant and patient in His worship“- Branch of Divinity that worship is to be offered only to Allaah.


“Do you know of any who is similar to Him? (of course none is similar or co-equal or comparable to Him, and He has none as partner with Him). [There is nothing like Him and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer].“- this indicates the branch of Al Asma wa ṣifaat.
